The 28th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo is scheduled for May 8 to 10 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing.
Expo Thematic Zones Drive Future Roadmap
Organisers have structured the event around six thematic zones. Three receive explicit emphasis: information technology, intelligent manufacturing and green technology. These zones align directly with Beijing's established strengths in artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing. The China National Convention Center provides the central venue for exhibitors to present developments that build on the city's existing research clusters.
Zhongguancun and Emerging Districts Anchor Local Ecosystem
Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park in Haidian District serves as the core hub, hosting more than 1,000 AI-specialised companies along with laboratories operated by Baidu, Microsoft and Didi. Additional activity concentrates in Sanlitun and Guomao, where a youth startup hub along the subway line linking universities to the central business district has gathered 316 AI and cultural innovation enterprises. These locations have supported the growth of major firms including ByteDance, Baidu, Xiaomi and JD.com.
Recent Economic Data Underpins Continued Expansion
Beijing recorded a Gross Regional Product of 5.2 trillion yuan in 2025, reflecting 5.4 percent growth and positioning the city as the second after Shanghai to surpass the 5-trillion-yuan threshold. High-tech manufacturing contributed to this performance, with computer and electronic equipment manufacturing rising 20.2 percent and new energy vehicle output increasing 1.4 times year-on-year. The tertiary sector accounted for 86.0 percent of GRP, while software and information technology services alone added 1.2 trillion yuan, up 11 percent. Per capita disposable income reached 89,090 yuan after a 4.4 percent real increase. Beijing has maintained a third-place global ranking among innovation hubs for four consecutive years and captured approximately 35 percent of China's venture funding. R&D investment has grown at a rate topping 6 percent annually since 2019.
The upcoming expo at the China National Convention Center offers a platform for participants to examine how these established trends translate into concrete product roadmaps and development pipelines across the designated zones.
