Youth Events Anchor Local Participation
The 2026 ITF U12 Team Championship East Asia qualifying tournament opened at the Yuanli Sports Center in Beijing's Shunyi District. Nearly 600 participants joined the 2026 Happy Run International Youth and Family Sports Carnival in June 2026, including diplomats' children from 33 embassies and local youth. Nearly 1,300 young athletes from 87 organizations competed in the 2026 Youth Martial Arts Tournament held in Xicheng and Mentougou districts.
School Programs Expand Reach
Chinese schools in Beijing held 194,000 class-based sports competitions in the first half of 2025 with around 5 million student participations, including the citywide 'Class Super League'. Beijing launched the citywide "Class Super League" in spring 2026, planning 400,000 youth sports matches with 5 million student participations across primary and secondary schools. Over 2,000 young athletes gathered for the inaugural UIPM 2025 Obstacle World Championships, competing in a 3,000-meter obstacle challenge.
Broader Calendar Supports Mass Events
More than 3,000 athletes and coaches are expected to participate in the 12th Traditional Sports Games of Beijing, which will be held in Daxing District from August 8-13. Registration is open for the 2026 Beijing Daxing Half Marathon and the 10th 'Huahui Beijing, Yuepao Daxing' Half Marathon. Beijing is prioritizing emerging sports popular among youth such as BMX, pickleball, and rock climbing, alongside traditional mass events like the Beijing Youth Three Major Balls Open.
Local runners can register now for the Daxing half marathon events. The citywide school competitions and district tournaments continue to feed participants into larger fixtures on the 2026 schedule.
