New Subway Line Transforms Changping Into Beijing's Fastest-Growing Commuter Hub
A subway branch line extension will turn northern Changping into a daily commute option for central Beijing workers.

The Beijing Subway authority confirmed this week that the northern branch of Line 17 will open for passenger service on 15 August 2026, placing four new stations directly into the fields and low-rise villages around Beiqijia in Changping District.
Central Beijing districts recorded average residential prices above 78,000 yuan per square metre in the first half of 2026, according to municipal housing commission figures released last month. Families priced out of Dongcheng and Xicheng have begun looking north, and the new line shortens the journey from Beiqijia to Guomao by 28 minutes on a single interchange at Huilongguan.
The route starts at the existing Huilongguan station on Line 13, passes the Beijing University of Chemical Technology campus at Shahe, and terminates at a new depot beside the Tiantongyuan East affordable-housing estate. Local planners have already rezoned 180 hectares around the Shahe stop for mixed-use towers and a 12,000-seat primary school scheduled for 2027.
Housing numbers shift quickly
Transaction records filed with the Beijing Real Estate Exchange show 1,142 second-hand flats changed hands in the Beiqijia-Tiantongyuan corridor between April and June this year, up 19 percent from the same quarter in 2025. Median asking prices rose from 39,800 yuan per square metre in January to 44,200 yuan in June. Developers report that 620 units in the first phase of the Tiantongyuan East project sold within three weeks of the August opening date being announced.

Households considering a move should register interest through the official Beijing Metro app for fare-card integration updates and check weekly listings on the municipal housing platform. The Changping district land bureau will release the next batch of pre-sale permits for the Shahe station precinct on 25 July.
